Weider HSV-010 takes second consecutive GT500 pole position of the season underlining the strong potential of Honda’s new challenger. Last race winner, HIS Advan GT-R found its car to heavy to handle as they ended up second last on the grid. Although the weather was fine, qualifying session was not without drama. More on that later when I got the feeds from a friend in Japan.

2008 was the year that the GT-R announced its arrival on the Super GT Series. Honda had dominated the series with the NSX in 2007, securing the top 4 spot in the drivers championship and the ARTA NSX finishing top in the teams championship. It’s about time for Nissan to react, so they decided to retire the 350Z and replace it with the GT-R.

It was a surprise win by HIS Advan Kondo GT-R after a poor practice and qualifying pace all weekend. To top off their misery before the race, a crash in Qualifying meant that their mechanics just barely get the car ready for the grid. However, all of that failed to deter them from repeating Okayama 2009 impressive first round victory.

Racing season is back again, my hands are full with events in these coming few days. We have Sebring 12 hours underway, Formula One next week in Australia, MotoGP in a few weeks, and national events such as drifts and karting. Now, in less than few hours Super GT season is about to kick start at Suzuka. I’ve got to admit that I’m pretty excited about all of this but at the same time it has been difficult for me to juggle everything at one go. But you just can’t ignore the fact that the fastest GT competition on the planet is about to kick off.

2009 Autobacs Super GT Round 4 Practice Session Review:

Just 15 minutes into the Saturday Practice Session, the heavens opened up to greet the drivers and soon after, it rained heavily. Because all of the cars were still on slick tyres, they have to tip toe around the track to make it back to the pit. The typical monsoon weather made it impossible to drive, so i can hardly imagine what the drivers are seeing through their window in this condition. How bad was the weather? The sight of the DAISHIN ADVAN Ferrari (above) trying to nurse it back to the pit tells it all!
