Super GT Round 2 – FUJI GT 400km RACE : DENSO SARD SC430 Takes Pole

Due to the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, Super GT has rescheduled their calendar and Round 1 of the championship at Okayama has been postponed to the 21st of March. Subsequently, Round 2 at Fuji has become the 2011 season opener for the championship and the event was given a special name as the “Great East Japan Earthquake Reconstruction Aid Event”. Although it was known as the FUJI GT 400km RACE, the race will be shortened to 300km in 2011.

Hiroaki Ishiura took his 1st Super GT pole position in the GT500 Class as the DENSO SARD SC430′s new signing recorded a time of 1’32.738 in the SuperLap session. Nissan showed a strong performance by securing the next three places on the grid. Led by the new entrance for 2011, the S Road MOLA GT-R of Masataka Yanagida and Ronnie Quintarelli qualified second fastest ahead of the ADVAN KONDO GT-R and the CALSONIC IMPUL GT-R.

The highest qualifier for Honda was the RAYBRIG HSV-010 in 7th place. The reigning Super GT GT500 champion, the Weider HSV-010 of Takashi Kogure and Loic Duval only managed 9th on the grid, after failing to get into the SuperLap session.

Meanwhile, in the GT300 Class, it was the HANKOOK PORSCHE of Masami Kageyama and Tomonobu Fujii in pole position for tomorrow’s race ahead of the PACIFIC NAC IKAMUSUME Ferrari and the triple a Vantage GT2.
