Having to start first on the day, Ogier benefited from his teammate’s problem after Loeb’s car’s gear selector pin broke right before the start of SS15. The problem left Loeb’s Citroen stuck in 3rd gear. Loeb and co-driver Daniel Elena spent five minutes fixing the problem and received a 50 second penalty for the late start.

Because of the event, Loeb lost his 19.7 seconds lead to Ogier and now trailed by 24.1 seconds. It looked like Ogier was going to run away with victory when his car suffered an intermittent power loss with five kilometres of stage 16 left to run and dropped some five seconds. However, Loeb suffered another misfortune when he stalled on the final hairpin of SS17 as a result of his car’s handbrake not working and lost vital time. Loeb ended the day 11.3 seconds behind Ogier with only three stages left for Day 3.

Petter Solberg put on a brilliant performance, charging back from 12th place to finish the day in 5th. Solberg won four stages on the day and was a bit lucky to escape a high speed spin in SS17. Mads Ostberg ended the day in 6th place ahead of Henning Solberg in 7th.
