Super GT 2010 at Sepang – Race Day : Through the Lens Part 2

Continuing from Part 1, here’s the 2nd part of some of the images taken during the race day.

A brilliant performance from Ryo Orime and Nobuteru Taniguchi saw the M7 MUTIARA MOTORS AMEMIYA SGC 7 comfortably taking the win in the GT300 Class by 27.625 seconds ahead of the 2nd place ARTA Garaiya of Morio Nitta and Shinichi Takagi.

Not a great weekend for Andre Lotterer. The PETRONAS TOM’S SC430′s driver struggled to match the pace of the GT-Rs and the HSV-010s. Two major factors that needs to be considered is the circuit layout and the weight penalty. The SC430 has never scored a podium finish at Sepang, as its technical layout is more suited to the Nissan GT-R and previously the Honda NSX. The HSV-010 continues where the NSX left off, and performed admirably despite not winning the race. The other factor is that the PETRONAS TOM’S SC430 is the heaviest car with a weight penalty of 68 kg before the race, therefore 8th place is a decent effort for the team.

Empty grandstands. A pity scenario. Although the race produced a great spectacle and some close racing, the same cannot be said of the atmosphere. There are some rumours in the paddock that this will be the final year the Super GT Series will be organized by the Sepang International Circuit. If no other organizers are willing to promote the event, perhaps we are seeing the last of the Super GT in Malaysia.

GT500 cars making its way through the traffic of the slower GT300 cars. 30 minutes into the race, and the cars are still literally only a few metres apart and the gap between the top 10 cars are under 10 seconds.
