Mercedes GP Petronas and Lotus Racing – Back at Home

Both are big names of motorsports. Legendary in their own rights. As a Malaysian, few years ago if somebody told me we will have two Formula One teams competing at Sepang in year 2010, I’d asked him to go for a brain check.

For the sceptics, I agree that Mercedes GP Petronas is not really a Malaysian team, but well it’s still related in a way. Petronas is the title partner of Mercedes after all.

For the fans, Mercedes and Lotus have something in store for you guys. Check out the happenings around town!!! Participate and if you have an interesting story to tell, like you bumped into Schumacher or something like you spend a date with Heikki for one night for that matter, you are most welcomed to comment.

Lotus

Kicking off the team’s week in Malaysia, Lotus Racing today held a homecoming celebration at the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur where all three drivers – Jarno Trulli, Heikki Kovalainen and Fairuz Fauzy – unveiled the stunning green-and-yellow Lotus Cosworth T127 for the first time to their Malaysian fans. There to witness the momentous occasion were Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Youth and Sports Minister Dato’ Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

The Lotus Cosworth T127 is on display at the Pavilion’s main concourse area from 3pm to 10 pm today and it will be the first opportunity for F1™ fans in Malaysia to catch a glimpse of the machine since it was launched in London on 12 February.

“This is the real Lotus Cosworth T127 that will be racing in Sepang on 2-4 April. This is a very rare opportunity for our fans to see our actual car up close” added SM Nasimuddin

Apart from an autograph session with drivers Jarno Trulli, Heikki Kovalainen and Fairuz Fauzy, Lotus Racing merchandise is also on sale for the first time during the event. The team also launched the Malaysian Chapter of the official Lotus Racing Fan Club.

On the side of the celebration is a photo gallery containing some rarely seen photographs that provide a chronology of the team’s history, development and progress.

Mercedes

MERCEDES GP PETRONAS team’s title partner, PETRONAS, and the Malaysian company will be marking the occasion with a spectacular fan event, the PETRONAS Pit Pulse, in the centre of Kuala Lumpur throughout the week.

Before the race weekend gets underway, Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg will be performing demo runs at the PETRONAS Pit Pulse site close to the Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur and making various appearances at the event. The Pit Pulse programme looks set to be spectacular.

  1. Andy Wilde says:

I have been in Kuala Lumpur for the past week looking forward to the race. Iv only just stumbled across the events now that have taken place down at the Petronas towers and around. There has not been a single bit of advertising about these pre race shows arond Kuala Lumpur at all and as a result Iv missed the whole thing. Very disappointing. Will there be anything happening on the 1st?

  2. McD says:

    Andy,

Too bad man! It’s only for today. Actually, the street race has only been conducted two times before this. One in 1999 and the other in 2005 I think.

  3. HERT says:

Andy, free practice at Sepang admission is free. No need tickets. Perhaps you could check that out.

Pit Pulse will continue until 4th. But I don’t know what are the programs. open from 10am – 10pm.
