USA – The Hub of Motorsports

Motorsports in America have always been in the limelight thanks to the big series such as ALMS, Indy 500, CART and NASCAR. There are so much varieties of cars in different shape all destined for one ultimate goal. Victory and recognition. It’s here in America, car manufacturers struts their stuffs and make themselves known to the world. Just like Hollywood where arts grew freely, motorsports in America similarly to their European counterpart is the center of growth of motorsports culture. Here are some of my best attempt at capturing the varieties.

The wet opening lap of the 2009 Petit Le Mans. In this shot the four leading cars, two Audi Sport Team Joest Audi R15 TDIs and two Peugeot 908 HDi FAPs, race through the esses of Road Atlanta. The esses are a series of quick right and left turns located between turns 4 and 5. Peugeot would go on to take first and second at Petit when the race was called early due to weather.

The #21 Porsche Cayman S, painted in the classic Martini livery, competes in the evening race at the 2009 Sebring Historic Fall Classic. The Napleton Porsche Cayman Interseries Challenge competes along side classic cars in the Historic Sportscar Racing events.

#12 Conquest Racing Formula Atlantic Swift 016.a rounds turn 5 of Sebring during the 2009 Cooper Tires Atlantic Championship race. Driver James Winslow finished 8th overall in this race.

Another shot from the 2009 Petit Le Mans. Here’s the GT2 Corvette Racing Compuware Chevrolet Corvette C6.R on the straight before turn 6. Last year, Corvette moved their racing program from GT1 to GT2. Thankfully, the cars sound just as good as their more powerful predecessor and, in my opinion, look even better.

#90 Rahal Letterman BMW M3 E92 (above) slides into the gravel trap at the bottom of the Road Atlanta esses during the ALMS Friday Practice for the 2009 Petit Le Mans. No damage to the BMW but it did get stuck and had to be pulled out by a truck before practice resumed.
